I Might Just Need to Buy a PS3/XBOX360
Uncategorized June 3rd, 2008So I’ve come to the conclusion that the Wii just isn’t enough to satiate my hunger for good games. With the rediculous amount of shovelware being released on the Wii I rarely see anything worth a purchase on store shelves these days (Forget about Wii Fit. That game is terrible). What worries me, though, is how well this garbage sells.
People buy the Wii these days because they want to try Wii Sports/Wii Fit/ Wii Play, then when they get bored of that they go out and buy these piles of trash because they’re misinformed about gaming. When they buy these games they usually realise how terrible it is and don’t play the Wii anymore. Because this stuff sells, developers never feel the need to raise the bar and make more shovelware.
And that’s why I’ve come to the conclusion that I should pick up a secondary console. I’ve been thinking about the PS3, but the only games on it are MGS4 and Little Big Planet… maybe Final Fantasy. Not to mention the hefty price tag, but at least online is free and better than Nintendo’s ‘Big Brother’ approach to online gaming. After that, I don’t think I’ll be using it much. I’m also a little spiteful with Sony’s ‘I’m the big 800-pound gorilla of video games and I’ll do whatever I want and you’re gonna like it’ business strategy.
I also know a lot of idiots who bought it for ’street cred’ or because they felt loyal to their brand (I’m serious, I know people with a PS3 just to have one. It doesn’t make you cool, people!) and I’d loathe to be categorized with that group… However, I can relate: I did the same thing with the Wii.
Alternatively I could get the XBOX360. With games like Dead Rising, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, GTA4 which runs better on an XBOX, and Halo 3 (not so much Halo 3, though) I’d have plenty of good games to occupy my time. However, most of these are FPSs and I’ve never cared much for that genre as a whole. A lot of these games are coming to or are on the PC now as well. The online isn’t free, but with the leftover cash from NOT buying a PS3 I could buy a few years worth of online gaming time, not to mention Castle Crashers is coming to the XBOX Arcade soon.
However, despite the freedom of their online, I heard the community is largely garbage - which Halo is infamous for. I really don’t want to hear 8-year olds screaming racial slurs into the mic while I try to play. I swear, next person to tell me to crank something online gets a fistful of boomstick. ._.
So I turn to you, the helpful reader. What system should I purchase to satisfy my gaming needs?

hi,
I have a xbox and i really like it i havn’t tried the online gaming but the games that are coming out on it are pretty sweet. I like my xbox because almost controllers are cordless and u can turn the system on by turning the controller on you can put music on it so if your playing a game u can listen to some music and you can download some arcade games to your system if u get bored of the games you have bought. Also most controls for the games are pretty simple. The only thing that i didn’t like about it is that now of days a new gaming system costs around $500and the game can go anywheres from $30 to $120 and thats pretty insane if u\you ask me but it your choice on what you want to buy. Heyy Brandon i like how you put what you think about the games out there i used to have a xbox 360 but it broke on me but it was really good game box to play if i had to suggest one it would be xbox 360 it has some really good games but as he said the controllers will raise somewhere from $30-$120 so it is a bit exspensive but it is worth it so theres my opinion for you. l8er

I totally agree with your ideas about the Wii. There are only a few games for it that are fun, and the rest aren’t that good. I have an Xbox 360, and I recommend getting one. The games are great, and fun. There are plenty of good games out for the Xbox, and more keep coming. Online play is great, and if you don’t like what someone is saying, you can just mute them. Go with the Xbox 360.

Devon: I think it’s sort of ironic that every point you had (excluding music) is also featured on the Wii. Truth is, I don’t care for all the bells and whistles in the world; I only buy what plays good games. The XBOX has no games coming out that have grabbed my attention, so I’m hesitant in buying one.
I was thinking of the XBOX360 myself, but I don’t know if I’m willing to pass up a game like Little Big Planet. It’s a make-your-own-platformer, who wouldn’t want that?
